This little butterfly house is the perfect decoration to add to your yard or garden for an extra touch of beauty.  Whether butterfly houses actually attract butterflies or not is up for debate, but one thing is for sure – they are pieces of art in themselves and look great in the garden!
 
This butterfly house is handcrafted from solid Western red cedar and is available unfinished or with a coat of exterior grade transparent cedar naturaltone stain.  The signature features of this butterfly house are the steep roof, secondary roof, grooved openings, and v-grooves that run vertically down both sides.  It is designed to fit right over a nominal 4x4 post, which is one of the most common post sizes used on decks and fences.  Please keep in mind that the actual dimensions of a nominal 4x4 post are 3 ½” x 3 ½”.  If your post measures a true 4” x 4” this house will not slide over the top.  The butterfly house has a pre-drilled hole on the back and includes a stainless steel screw for mounting.
 
If you already have a post you plan to mount this butterfly house on, please double-check the dimensions before ordering.  The bottom opening of this birdhouse measures approximately 3 9/16” x 3 9/16”, which allows a little extra room in case your post has swelled over time or has minor imperfections.  If the post is larger than these dimensions this birdhouse will not fit over the top.  
 
Butterfly house dimensions are as follows:
 
•        Exterior dimensions are approximately 4 ½” x 4 ½” x ~11” at highest point
•        Interior dimensions are approximately 3 ½” x 3 ½” x ~ 8” at highest point (after placing on post)
 
Choose the "unfinished" variation if you would like the cedar to age to a natural gray or plan on finishing it yourself.  Choose the stained version if you would like a coat of transparent exterior-grade cedar naturaltone stain.  All exterior sides are stained - the inside and the bottom are not.
